Many companies offer to offset your carbon footprint. The usual method is to buy a tree with the idea that a tree will use CO2 from the atmosphere as it grows. A tree will absorb about 500Kg of CO2 during it’s 100 year life. The average CO2 footprint per person per year is 12 tonnes, this requires about 2400 trees or a 6 acre (2.5 Hectare) area of woodland per person......it's not practical.
